Artist's Comments

The Chinese have a bizarre approach to wedding photography. They have the photos taken before the wedding, sometimes as much as 6 months before. And yes, as you can guess sometimes the wedding is called off which leaves the couple in the unusual situation of having photos of a wedding that never took place.

I came across this scene in Qingdao. From a distance I couldn't figure what all the white speckles were on the rocks. As I got closer and it started to become clear it reminded of a wildlife program about seals on rocks. I don't know whether it's like this all the time or that happened to be a special 'wedding photography' day but I would hate to be one of those photographers trying to make sure no other bride was in the background of their shot. Every culture has it's own approach but this certainly takes away the uniqueness.

Oh gosh, I actually thought you orchestrated this whole thing, brides, grooms, photographers and all.
But that is a funny way of having wedding photo shoots and all at the same time, and place, I see. :3

"As I got closer and it started to become clear it reminded of a wildlife program about seals on rocks.
That's a clever way of putting it! :D

No trees were killed in the sending of this message.
However, a large number of electrons were terribly
agitated.

That's so interesting!! Heehee, I had no idea they took photos before the wedding! :giggle: Is that only for the more westernized weddings or for the traditional ones too?

Both, and not just for Chinese weddings. Other Asian/Southeast Asian cultures do it, too. Never thought of it as a strange custom before though.

However, this picture does look pretty crazy. Although if you're ever in San Francisco, CA and you go to the Legion of Honor or the Palace of Fine Arts on the weekends, you'll see lots of wedding couples and wedding parties trying to take pictures at the same places at the same time. But not as many as in this photo!
